It was an eventful week.
starting from wednesday-
the track stuff and getting hopelessly lost
with cartons of mineral water, at cck stadium
thursday- the racial harmony skit,
we shock ourselves by clinching third.
the test is best forgotten.
friday- training was seriously refreshing.
attained a new outlook on things.
then the long awaited saturday!
went to watch the wushu performance.
it was both an eye-opener and disappointment.
for crying outloud,
why the hell would anyone want to spend 15 bucks
to watch a contingent of
bright yellow bouncing sweet wrappers
(as karen so eloquently puts it)
they can't even stand in a straight line. sheesh.
but there were other performances.
the exponents from china were chao zhai,
for lack of better words.
even their warmups were impressive.
but then and again who does an aerial and
land with a split for warmups.
the silat performance was also spectacular.
their movements are not only
aesthetically pleasing but very deadly as well.
their fighting was among the most realistic.
in my opinion on par with that put up
by the most revered chinese exponents.
think the silat used the widest range
of weapons for their performance-
sais, parang, foot knife, keris. cudgel
(karen and iman are most knowledgeble bout it)
a very amusing interesting display,
was the one where this guy used not
any other weapon, not even the trident
but a chair. wow us. we're in a coffeeshop.
realised that taiji is best in small doses
(both iman and i were trying hard to stay awake.)
second last performance was by the china exponents again.
but this time with weapons.
the lady with the shuang bian
is undoubtly the most outstanding.
well even the weapon was exotic!
her movements were lightning fast.
it's most difficult to convey fully the
brilliance of the routine for lack of better words.
she was hovering in the air?!
or seemed like it anyway.
regretted not bringing the camera
but in a way it was a good thing
for by the end i was cursing all those with a camera
the flashes were blinding.
it was a good week.
encore!
